Update: New Weighbridge Installation at Oberon Waste Depot
Published on 04 July 2025
Oberon Council is in the process of upgrading the Waste Depot with the installation of a new weighbridge system. This infrastructure improvement is aimed at enhancing site operations, improving efficiency, and ensuring accurate waste measurement and charging.
Once fully operational, all incoming and outgoing vehicles will be required to use the weighbridge. Traffic lights will be installed at both ends of the weighbridge to manage the flow of vehicles entering and exiting the site.
How the process will work:
-
On arrival, vehicles will enter the weighbridge and stop at the intercom to speak with the weighbridge operator.
-
On departure, payment will be made at the gatehouse window before exiting.
Current operational status:
The weighbridge structure is now in place; however, due to software-related delays, the system is not yet fully functional. In the interim, all transactions will continue to be processed at the existing site office.
Fee structure during transition:
-
Weight-based charges will continue to be calculated using the FY2024/25 volumetric fees (e.g. a truckload of mixed waste is charged at $22 per cubic metre rather than $160 per tonne).
-
Itemised charges are now being applied in line with the FY2025/26 adopted fees and charges (e.g. a single garbage bag is charged at $5).
Council will provide a further update once the weighbridge system is fully operational.
We thank residents and waste depot users for their understanding and cooperation during this transition period.
