COUNCIL EXTENDS HEARTFELT CONDOLENCES FOLLOWING FATAL ROAD ACCIDENT.

Council wishes to express its shock and sorrow at the loss of two young lives from Black Springs yesterday (20 January 2026) on the Beaconsfield Road near Black Springs. Another passenger suffered severe injuries and is currently being treated at Liverpool Hospital.

Council expresses its deepest sympathy to the family, friends and loved ones of the young people who lost their lives, and all members of the community who have been impacted by this tragic event. Any loss of life is devastating, and public commentary that causes further pain is unacceptable.

Oberon Council is aware of comments made by a Councillor on social media regarding the recent road accident that has deeply affected our community.

While Councillors are individually responsible for their personal views, Council expects all elected representatives to act with compassion, restraint and respect, particularly in times of community grief. The comments made have fallen well short of this expectation.

Oberon Council unequivocally disassociates itself from the comments. They were inappropriate, insensitive and do not reflect the values, views or standards of Council.

Support services are available to anyone in the community who may be struggling, and Council encourages those affected to reach out for help.
