At the National Drought Summit on 26 October 2018, the Australian Government announced it would provide $30 million in much-needed support to drought-affected households through the Drought Community Support Initiative. We are touching base to inform you that this financial assistance is now available for eligible recipients and to provide you with some further information.

Unbelievably this will be my last column for 2018; the year has disappeared so quickly. I attended the end of year presentations at St Josephs and Oberon Public Schools this week and school is now officially “out.” I hope many of our young folk will be taking part in the annual Summer Reading Club at the Oberon Library over the holidays.

♫ It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas….. The Littles A’s Carols on Friday, The Fish River Festival and the Combined Churches Christmas Production on Sunday were all well attended and enjoyed by all. A great community effort for the OBTA Christmas Lights Competition this year including entries from the villages – the Black Springs Hall looks amazing.

I came away from the Oberon Primary School Colour Run with a definite green hue last week. The colour run raised $13,500 a wonderful effort by students, staff and parents, everyone really enjoyed the afternoon despite being wet and coloured various shades of yellow, green, purple, blue and red.

One hundred years ago last Sunday November 11 1918 at 11am the guns fell silent in the Great War and we and other communities across Australia paused for the one hundredth time to remember the almost sixty thousand Australian soldiers and nurses who died on battlefields far from home. This equates to thirty eight young Australian lives lost every day of the one thousand five hundred and sixty days of WW1.
