Oberon Council partnering with YMCA

YMCA NSW (The Y) is excited to have been awarded a 12-month contract to operate the Oberon Swimming Pool and new Fitness Centre, which is under construction and planned to open in the coming months.
The Y is one of the leading Recreation Management organisations in Australia and will commence management of the Oberon Swimming Pool from 12 October 2019. As a not-for profit organisation, the Y is committed to delivering services that improve the physical, mental and social wellbeing of communities.
The Y NSW, Chief Executive Officer, Susannah Le Bron said the organisation is thrilled to be working alongside Oberon Council to better the health and wellbeing of another regional community.

“The Y has a presence in a number of rural locations and we’re delighted to be expanding that regional footprint to include the Oberon Council area.  The benefits of managing two recreational facilities within one precinct brings with it a number of advantages, including increased employment opportunities, a bigger impact on the health of the community and easy access to new and diverse programs offered by the Y in Oberon”.
The Y with support from the Oberon Council will shortly begin a range of community and stakeholder sessions to ensure the needs and ideas of locals are being heard. Sessions will commence from September 9.
The Y NSW, Chief Operating Officer, Lisa Giacomelli said she welcomes feedback from local patrons. “I’d like to encourage the township to come along to our community sessions and share with us how together we can make the Oberon Swimming pool and fitness centre a desired destination for all local residents – we’re also eager to understand what types of programs or wellbeing services are needed in the community too.
The Y will continue to work with the council to secure local staff for the upcoming summer season. A number of roles will be available for local application in the coming days via the Y NSW website. Some of these roles will come with the Y providing all essential training and qualifications needed, as well as other employment benefits.
A new website and set of social media accounts are under development for the Oberon Swimming Pool and Fitness Centre and residents will be informed when these are active to ensure access to real-time updates about the build, employment opportunities and official opening information.
