Media Release: Oberon Council Library News
Date: Thursday 8 August 2013

The annual Wrap with Love knit-in was held at the Library on Friday 02 August 2013. Starting at 8.30am, members of the community arrived at the Library to contribute to the wonderful number of knitted squares and rugs being made in Oberon. The rugs are distributed to people less fortunate who are in need of warmth and are a wonderful way to demonstrate how one person can make a difference. Friends of the Oberon Library provided morning tea and lunch which was absolutely delicious. Several people asked for the soup recipe and copies of the recipe are now available at the Library. Well done to all who attended; we look forward to next years event!

The Library now provides a fantastic collection of new magazine titles designed to support healthy lifestyles through the generosity of Medicare Local. Drop in to browse our magazines or take some home on loan.

HEALTHY FOOD - This little magazine is full of ideas for easy and healthy meals. The 5pm Panic edition contains 30 healthy recipes that can be made in 30 minutes or less, several using ingredients already in the pantry! Apart from great recipes there is lots of interesting facts and information for instance, men who skip breakfast can weigh up to 3kg more than men who don’t; and 35% of adults’ kilojoule intake is from ‘extra’ foods! Meal planners, shopping lists and even an article on how to get an extra kick of energy make this magazine a ‘must read’.

GREAT WALKS - In this issue Manu Fieldel talks about his Kokoda challenge and shares his thoughts on eating spam along the way. There is lots of information about trekking, camping and glamping and some great articles on caravan cooking and products that will enhance every outdoor adventure.

MOROCCO - Morocco is the Country Women’s Association (CWA) country of study for 2013. CWA groups often celebrate by having a special dinner composed of dishes from the country of the year. One of the new titles at Oberon Council Library is the Australian Women’s Weekly Moroccan recipe book. This book contains a host of recipes for couscous designed to be served at breakfast, lunch or dinner, along with Tagines and delicious desserts like spiced crème caramel and hazelnut and date tart.
