Oberon Council Library News
Thursday November 2013
We had a wonderful turnout to the author talk given by Judy Nunn last week. The Community Centre was packed to capacity for this interesting event. As a speaker Judy was very warm and engaging and the food provided at the event was excellent. Many thanks for Friends of Oberon Library and caterers – we can now look forward to the next event!
This weeks Storytime was extra exciting! Oberon Library had a visit from pupils from St. Joseph’s School who read stories to the group and led the mums and children in a range of songs and rhymes. All the children took away a great red truck which they had made with help from the girls from St. Joseph’s. Well done mums, children, St. Joseph’s girls and also Mr Gibbons.
Here are some new great reads for this week:
PONTING : At the End of Play by Ricky Ponting - Ricky Ponting has been Australia’s one-day captain since 2002 and Test captain since 2004 and is a modern Australian hero. His latest book is an autobiography detailing many of the more private times in his life. Playing in Zimbabwe, the South African tour in 2006 and pressures of captaincy are topics Ricky does not shrink from. Some of Ricky’s opinions have sparked controversy in the press while he states loyalty and trust are two of the traits he looks for in a person. This book is a great read for fans of cricket, an interesting story and a detailed biography.
VICIOUS CIRCLE by Wilbur Smith - This is the new thriller from the bestselling author Wilbur Smith. When Hector Cross' new life is overturned, he immediately recognizes the ruthless hand of an enemy he has faced many times before. A terrorist group has re-emerged and Hector, determined to fight back, draws together a team of his most loyal friends from his former life in Cross Bow Security, a company originally contracted to protect his beloved wife, Hazel Bannock. They travel to the remotest Middle East, to hunt down those who pursue him and his loved ones. An enthralling and captivating read, uncovering shocking secrets that take Hector to the heart of Africa and to a series of crimes that demand revenge.
EYRIE by Tim Winton - This is the newest title from Tim Winton, one of Australia’s favourite authors. Tom Keely's reputation is in ruins. And that's the upside. Divorced and unemployed, he's lost faith in everything precious to him. Holed up in a grim high-rise, Keely looks down at a society from which he's retired hurt and angry. He is done fighting the good fight, and well past caring. But even in his seedy flat, he is not safe from entanglement. All it takes is an awkward encounter in the lobby. A woman from his past, a boy the likes of which he's never met before. What follows is a heart-stopping, ground-breaking novel for our times.
New look Library
If you haven’t been into the Library lately, now is the time to pop-in and take a look at some recent re-design that has taken place. Let us know what you think about the new look to the main Library area where fiction books are held. What do you think of the changes? Hopefully the children’s’ area is also going to get a bit of a make-over soon thanks to Friends of the Oberon Library. Your feedback is important as the Library is your space, so please let us know what you think!
