Latest News from Councillor Kerry Gibbons - Thursday 20 October 2016

Last Tuesday, Council held an Extraordinary Meeting to consider its options in relation to the judgement handed down by Chief Justice Preston in the Land and Environment Court on Friday 7 October 2016. On Thursday 13 October 2016 the Minister for Local Government gave an undertaking to Oberon Council that he would not proceed with any action to amalgamate the Councils until 7 days after the current appeal proceedings undertaken by Woollahra Council were finalised. Oberon Council thanks the Minister for this extension and will now have the opportunity to seek further information and clarification in relation to its legal position.

Of particular interest was the discussion facilitated by a panel of specialists regarding the challenges and achievements of the Local Government Reform agenda.
