Congratulations to June Evans who has been awarded an Order of Australia Medal in the Queens Birthday Honour List for her service to the Oberon community.
June has volunteered her time to countless groups and events in the Oberon community for many years. She was recognised for her efforts in 2003 when she was awarded Oberon Citizen of the Year and in 2018 June was awarded a NSW Seniors Local Achievement Award.
June is well known in the Oberon community for her numerous volunteering activities. Every morning June sets out on a daily walk of over one hour and along the way she collects rubbish and litter from the roadside, taking it home and disposing of it, either as household rubbish or recycling. June also supports the local Catholic church, by reading and helping at mass and counting money as well as spending her Tuesday’s helping out at the Oberon Public School canteen. Until very recently she also worked at the local St Vincent de Paul centre twice a week. June continues to run a weight loss support group called Slimliners every Thursday morning and members pay a small weekly fee which June organises for donation to charity.
June also works to support the hospital auxiliary group, attending meetings, cooking for street stalls and markets and selling raffle tickets and even finds time to make weekly visits to the Columbia Aged Care facility. Her spare time is spent knitting for the Wrapped with Love organisation which provides blankets for the needy and homeless.
