O'CONNELL EARTH BUILDING PROJECT WINS NATIONAL TRUST HERITAGE AWARD

The Bathurst and District Branch of the National Trust has presented their monthly heritage award for July to a joint Oberon/O'Connell project aiming to restore the region's historic buildings.  The O'Connell earth building workshop coordinator Angus McKibbin and Oberon Mayor Kathy Sajowitz received their National Trust Heritage Awards from Bathurst branch chairman Iain McPherson.

I would like to thank Oberon Inner Wheel for inviting me to their changeover lunch last weekend and congratulate the incoming President Melita Braun and her committee. I hope the team enjoy a successful year in office. Can I also acknowledge past President Charmayne Hogan and her team for their hard work over the past twelve months.

MY COMMUNITY PROJECT

MY COMMUNITY PROJECT -  The My Community Project is a new funding initiative by the NSW Government which will improve the wellbeing of people and communities in NSW.  Each electorate in NSW has been allocated approximately $260,000 in funding for community projects in this round of the program.  In May 2019 the Oberon community were asked to nominate projects to receive funding from the My Community Project Program.

In 2015 the NSW Government requested the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal (IPART) to review the local government rating system in NSW.  The purpose of the review was to develop recommendations to improve the equity and efficiency of the rating system, in order to enhance councils’ ability to implement sustainable fiscal policies long term.

June Evans - Order of Australia Medal in the Queens Birthday Honour List

Congratulations to June Evans who has been awarded an Order of Australia Medal in the Queens Birthday Honour List for her service to the Oberon community.

June has volunteered her time to countless groups and events in the Oberon community for many years. She was recognised for her efforts in 2003 when she was awarded Oberon Citizen of the Year and in 2018 June was awarded a NSW Seniors Local Achievement Award.

Congratulations to Ms Fran Charge, Chair of Oberon Arts Council on her reappointment to the position of Chair of Arts OutWest (AOW). The AGM of this organisation was held last Sunday in Bathurst and included a visit to the Bathurst Regional Art Gallery, T Arts Gallery and Australian Fossil and Mineral Museum. I was delighted to attend this event and I extend thanks to Bathurst Council who hosted lunch at BMEC.
