At the National Drought Summit on 26 October 2018, the Australian Government announced it would provide $30 million in much-needed support to drought-affected households through the Drought Community Support Initiative. We are touching base to inform you that this financial assistance is now available for eligible recipients and to provide you with some further information.
Support under the initiative consists of up to $3,000 per household, comprising up to $2,000 in cash and $1,000 in vouchers. Farmers, farm workers and farm suppliers/contractors facing hardship due to drought in the 81 eligible Local Government Areas under the Drought Communities Programme Extension can receive this assistance.
The Government has engaged the Salvation Army, St Vincent de Paul Society and Rotary Australia World Community Service to deliver the initiative. These experienced organisations are working together and have mechanisms to reach communities where they do not currently have a physical presence.
