Council News - Thursday 21 May 2015

Work has commenced on the installation of the new Swimming Pool roof enclosure. After decades of lobbying by the Oberon community, it is pleasing to see this project finally get off the ground. Contractors are currently preparing the footings and doing internal site preparation works. It is expected that the piers will be poured next week and the enclosure completed within the next month.

The first residents are expected to take up residence in the new Columbia Aged Care Oberon Centre during the week. The facility will hold its official opening on Friday 29 May, commencing at 11am. I am sure the new residents will settle in very quickly in their new home and I am looking forward to seeing the completed facility at the opening.

We have received advice from the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal (IPART) that our application for a Special Rate Variation has been successful.  Although it is recognised that this may cause significant impact on ratepayers, it is a vital step towards ensuring that we remain a strong, independent local government area into the future.  In considering our application IPART has determined that rates in Oberon are below the average of comparable Council’s and there is a clear need for additional funds.

We are currently preparing to commence our next round of Community Presentations of the 2015 Draft Oberon Community Strategic Plan. Our meetings will be held as follows:
