Release: Thursday 19 December 2013

The Oberon Lawn Cemetery Guidelines were discussed and formally adopted at Tuesday night’s Council meeting.

The draft Guidelines were placed on public exhibition following a decision at the Council
Meeting held on 20 September 2013 and no submissions were received.

The Guidelines have been prepared to inform the community of requirements, expectations and restrictions that will apply with the placement of monuments, memorial items and so on. The Guidelines will also ensure that the Lawn Cemetery is managed and maintained to the highest possible standard.

I’d like to express my best wishes to the Kelly family and their recovery over the coming weeks and months ahead. The whole community has been shocked and saddened by this family tragedy and it has been wonderful to see the support and generosity from local families, businesses, and even nationally as well.

Kelly family relative John Goddard has set up the Oberon Kelly Family Fund to receive community donations, which can be accessed through the internet and also directly at the NAB in Oberon.

Last Thursday night I attended the Black Springs Public School Presentation Evening. I was really impressed with the whole night; there were some outstanding performances by the children which was wonderful to see from such a small country school. Well done to all the students, teachers and parents involved, I thoroughly enjoyed the evening.

Over the past week Oberon Councillors have also attended school presentation nights in our local area. Councillor Jill Evans attended the Annual Presentation Evening at Oberon Public School last Monday, Councillor Clive McCarthy attended the Oberon High School Annual Presentation Night last Tuesday evening, Councillor Neil Francis attended the Burraga Public School Presentation Evening Monday, and Councillor John Morgan went along to the St Josephs Catholic School Presentation Day.

Councillors have commented how much they enjoyed the entertainment and performances by the local school children and were very impressed with the quality awards and presentations that took place.

I’d like to wish you all a very safe and happy Christmas.  I hope you are able to relax, refresh, and spend time with family and friends during the holiday period.
