Council News - Thursday 16 July 2015

Latest News from Mayor John McMahon

I would like to remind Oberon residents that a Public Meeting will be held on Friday 17 July, commencing at 11.00am at the Oberon RSL Club to discuss the future of the Oberon Meals on Wheels service for our elderly and infirm residents.

Under the current proposal Bathurst Meals On Wheels will be taking over the Oberon service for a three month trial commencing from 1 August. They propose to replace the fresh cooked hot meals with frozen meals. Oberon Council will provide space at the CTC Office for their coordinator and freezer for the services during the trial. Representatives from both the Bathurst and Oberon Meals on Wheels Service will be in attendance to answer questions.

The Oberon Smart Card Water Filling Station is now up and running with the final work completed last week to install the card reader. The filling station will provide Oberon residents with clean drinking water and for residents who rely on rainwater tanks a service much needed during dry months.  It will also provide a 24 hr service to domestic supply water carriers who provide domestic supply water to outlying areas of Oberon. The Water Filling Station is located next to the new Recycling Bin area along North Street (opposite the small Soccer Field).

The Councillor Works Inspection which had been scheduled for Tuesday 14 July has been postponed due to the current wet and snowy weather conditions.  This tour will be re-scheduled shortly and will include an inspection of a large number of local gravel roads.  Councillors are given an opportunity to attend Works Inspections at least annually and they give Councillors great insight into the work required on our road network to address our infrastructure backlog.

An extensive program of drainage improvements and gravel resheeting is planned on our rural gravel roads over the next three years. Also included in the forward works program is major improvements to the final unsealed section of Dog Rocks Road. This is vital for residents in the southern end of our Shire, particularly for livestock carriers transporting to the Carcoar CLX Saleyards.
