This coming weekend the 114th Oberon Show will be held at the Oberon Showground.  The hardworking committee have the showground looking great and the show promises to be a terrific turnout.  I would like to wish the Showgirl entrants all the very best, I hope they enjoy the experience of entering the Showgirl competition.

Last weekend I attended the Highland Steam and Vintage Fair.  The Street Parade was the best I have seen with and amazing array of steam traction engines, vintage and veteran trucks and cars and their drivers dressed in everything from work wear, vintage clothing to Sunday best.  Despite the extremely hot conditions on Saturday there was a record number of exhibitors and the greatest display of stationery engines I have ever seen. I would like to congratulate the organisers for a job well done!

The NSW Government Local Land Services organisation held a public meeting in Oberon last week to discuss options for the districts farmers to cope with the worsening drought conditions.  The main topics discussed were when to sell stock and how to manage during drought conditions. The meeting was very well attended by local landholders from across the region and the information presented was very practical.

As a result of strong support from the local community Oberon Council has developed plans to construct a roof over the current Oberon Pool.  Plans for the new roof can be viewed at the Council Administration Office and the Oberon Pool Complex.

Construction of the roof structure is proposed to commence after the closure of the current swim season and before the commencement to the next swim season. It is expected that we will be able to extend the swim season for another 6 – 8 weeks following completion of the new roof.

Council will be holding a Public Information Session regarding Fluoridation of water on Wednesday 12 March 2014 from 6 – 9pm at the Oberon RSL Club. The forum will be an opportunity for members of the community to receive information from the NSW Government Health representatives. There will also be two community forums held from 6 – 9pm on Thursday 20 March at the Oberon Showground and Wednesday 26 March at the Oberon RSL Club.  The community forums will provide an opportunity for members of the community to have their say.
