Latest News from Mayor Kathy Sajowitz

On Monday along with the No Amalgamation Group I met with representatives from Mosman, Cabonne, Holroyd, Manly, Strathfield, Hunters Hill and Pittwater Councils at Machattie Park Bathurst. From the park the combined groups walked to the Minister’s office to deliver letters establishing their position on forced amalgamations. Bathurst Mayor Gary Rush joined us for lunch. Bathurst Council along with Oberon has taken the “Stand Alone” option in the Fit for the Future process and does not support forced amalgamations.

There were approximately 35 members of the Oberon Community in attendance at the rally and I offer my thanks for that support particular thanks to the Committee.  I urge you all to you write to Ministers Toole & Cobb, Premier Baird and Opposition Leader Luke Foley stating support for “no forced amalgamations” There information available to assist should you require it – you can contact me or any other Councillor to access this material.

I had a meeting with our Federal Member John Cobb last week amongst discussion points was the NBN rollout. In summary the fixed line rollout will commence in the Oberon area around April 2016. The rollout should take eighteen months and full operation is scheduled for late 2017. Fixed wireless is already available in parts of the LGA but needs line of sight to the two towers already installed. Long term Satellite delivery is planned for trials during 2016. There are two new satellites scheduled for launch in the near future and once trialled should be a vast improvement on the current Interim Satellite System. Access to all three options will be available through your service providers at the appropriate time. Two more Black Spot Mobile Phone Towers are also planned for Paling Yards and Porters Retreat areas over the next twelve months.

Well done to the recipients of the Community Donation Program – it is always a pleasure for Council to assist the many School, Community and Sporting groups that work so hard adding to the rich fabric of our town.

I attended the OHS performance last week and enjoyed every minute of it. As soon as you step into the School you can feel the positive vibes coming from both students and staff – “Queen” forever.

Watch out for your four free tip vouchers in the post this week.

Congratulations to the Wrap with Love Knitting group. We hosted ABC Morning Presenter Brooke Daniels to the annual Wrap with Love Day. Brooke kindly transported thirty two completed rugs to the collection centre in Orange. Well done to the group.

Jill O’Grady from Upper Macquarie County Council and our local Weeds Officer will be giving a short presentation to Council before the September Meeting on Tuesday 15, if you would like to hear what Jill has planned over the coming months you are welcome to come along and listen (this will not be a Q&A session but for information only). You may even like to stay for the meeting (optional) and find out what we actually do in your name at Council meetings.
