Media Release - Council News
Release: Thursday 27 June 2013
Last Tuesday evening Council held its Ordinary Meeting in Burraga. The meeting was well attended and extremely well received by the local community. I would like to extend my thanks to the members of the Burraga P & C for providing an excellent meal on Tuesday night.
I am pleased to advise that Council endorsed its Land Use Strategy (LUS) and Local Environmental Plan (LEP) at the meeting. Council confirmed the minimum lot size for the proposed Large Lot Residential land in O’Connell and Oberon. Several members of the community were in attendance at the meeting and were able to address Council in relation to the LUS and LEP.
This is a major milestone in what has been a lengthy and somewhat frustrating process and Council staff are to be congratulated for their continued persistence in bringing this project to the final stages. The finalised documents will now be sent to the Department of Planning for final approval and gazettal.
Final arrangements are now in place for the Oberon 150 Year Celebrations which will take place on Saturday 6 July 2013.
The Heritage Street Parade will take place in the main street of Oberon, commencing at 11am and will include a variety of vintage vehicles and creative floats paraded by community groups, sporting associations and businesses within the local area.
The Heritage Street Parade will finish at the Oberon Showground where the festivities will continue with stalls, food facilities, entertainment, along with the cutting of the Celebration Cake by Her Excellency Professor Marie Bashir AC CVO Governor of New South Wales.
A reminder that tickets are on sale for the Official Sesquicentenary Dinner, which will be held at the Oberon RSL Club Auditorium on Saturday 6 July. All Oberon residents are invited to come along to the dinner with special guest of honour, Her Excellency Professor Marie Bashir AC CVO Governor of New South Wales. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity as it is not often that the Governor is able to visit regional towns and meet with members of the community.
The dinner promises to be a great night with a lovely three course meal and great entertainment provided by the Bay Rum Band. For those interested in local history, noted local historian Kevin Webb will be there as a guest speaker.
Tickets can be purchased for $50 per person from Oberon Council up until this Friday 28 June 2013. I hope you can join us to help celebrate this special milestone in Oberon’s history. For further information please contact Council on 6329 8100.
The Oberon Branch of Can Assist will hold a Christmas in July luncheon at the Oberon RSL Club on Sunday 21 July, commencing at 12 noon.
Tickets for the luncheon can be acquired from Rosedale Gifts. Special guest will be Narda Gilmore, who is a well known political reporter for the ABC in Canberra. Narda’s address will give us an insight into the world of politics in Australia and will be very interesting.
