Community Services offered through Council
Thursday 24 July 2014
The Oberon Community Transport Service (Care Car) is available to residents of Oberon to provide transport to frail, aged, elderly and disabled persons within the community. It provides access to services not available in Oberon, including transport to and from medical appointments and social events to locations such as Bathurst, Orange, Lithgow or Sydney.
Council are always in need of volunteer drivers for the service. Being a volunteer driver is a rewarding experience, allowing you to offer your time and support to members of the community.
The Oberon Community Transport Service also offers a Taxi Voucher Scheme to all Transport Clients. The scheme now provides clients with 12 Taxi vouchers each month to assist with transport within Oberon for doing groceries, running errands and meeting appointments. Please enquire at Council for more information.
Council has again received funding from Transport NSW to assist with Transport Disadvantaged Community members/groups in Oberon. Oberon is classified as a transport disadvantaged town due to its rural and remote location and the lack of public transport services available. Groups can contact Council to book Community Bus Trips to events and activities either in the local area or further afield. Previous bus trips include Floriade in Canberra, shopping to Bathurst, sporting events in Sydney, and art exhibitions and theatre shows. We are interested to hear any suggestions for future bus trips and can also take bookings for trips for your community group/committee.
For further information on these community services provided by Council, please contact Council’s Community Services Coordinator Kathy Beesley on 6329 8100.
