Get Involved in Clean Up Australia Day
Release Date: Thursday 30 Jan 2014
In 1989 an average Australian bloke had a simple idea to make a difference in his own backyard - Sydney Harbour. This simple idea has now become the nation's largest community-based environmental event, Clean Up Australia Day.
Clean Up Australia Day (CUAD) will be held on Sunday 2 March 2014 and Oberon Council are encouraging all members of the community to get involved and do their bit for our environment.
How can you lend a hand this year in Clean Up Australia Day?
- Get a group together; family members, friends, school mates or neighbours.
- Pick an area such as a park, road, or street in the community that needs cleaning up.
- Register your group by calling Oberon Council on 6329 8100, or through the Clean Up Australia Day website www.cleanupaustraliaday.org.au/register.
- Council will then provide you with a Clean Up Kit including gloves, rubbish and recycling bags, and volunteer documentation.
Registrations are being taken now and will close Monday 17 February 2014.
In 2013 an estimated 550,000 volunteers removed over 16,000 tonnes of rubbish at 7,000 sites right across the country. This is such a simple way for everyone in the community to take action and clean up, fix up and conserve our prized Aussie environment.
