Aged Care Centre Project Now Underway

With the development of the new Residential Aged Care Facility project now underway, Columbia Aged Care Services have released preliminary plans along with an artist's impression of the new centre.

The new centre will comprise of 66 places that will accommodate high and low care needs, respite and secure dementia facilities. The majority of the bedrooms consist of single rooms with ensuites with some double rooms also with their own ensuites.

The proposed building will be two levels in addition and steps to include a partial basement for back of house services, staff areas and support office space. In addition to the communal areas provided within the residential wings, there is also a multi-use room, massage & day spa area, allied health office space, CACP office space, hairdresser and self-serve cafe space adjacent to the lobby.

The proposed development is designed to cater for a maximum of twenty staff working at any one time and provides for 17 car parking spaces, a covered drop off area, ambulance bay and loading / service area.

Building of the facility is planned to commence in mid June and work is expected to take approximately twelve months. This will be followed on by another two months of obtaining various approvals so the anticipated opening date is scheduled for late August 2014.

Mayor McMahon is encouraging all members of the Oberon community to come along to the "Turning The Sod" Ceremony to "help celebrate this milestone in Oberon's fight for adequate Aged Care facilities for our seniors". The ceremony will be held next Friday May 10 2013 at 11.00 am on site at the corner of Tarana Road and Albion Street, where the Mayor will unveil the Entry Sign to the new facility.
