Last week, Transport for NSW announced through the NSW Government ‘Safer Roads Program’ that Oberon Council has been successful with an application for improvements to 2.5km of the Abercrombie Road, Paling Yards for the 2016/2017 financial year. The works will involve safety improvements inclusive of curve widening, pavement improvements, delineation and installation of safety barriers. The funding provided for this work is $1,201,500, of which is 100% fully subsidised through the NSW Government, with the grant funding be administered through the Roads & Maritime Services. This is great news for Oberon. Council has lobbied both Federal and State Governments over many years for funding to improve this stretch of road infrastructure and we are both pleased and grateful that the NSW State Government has now recognised the need. All the work will be carried out “in house” by existing staff and will take the bottom line of the Oberon Council Operational Plan to that of over $20 million.
