Abercrombie Bridge & Road Project

Council staff commenced excavation works for the new 2 lane concrete bridge foundations this week. Fortunately due to the very dry conditions the river has stopped flowing with the surface water having dried up allowing Council to excavate approx. 1.5 metres below river bed depth in order to place Basalt rocks as a new subsurface foundation for the new concrete bridge base. Bridge works construction works are expected to continue over the next 4 week period into early April, allowing the new road approach works then to commence with an anticipated completion by late April. Presently there are no major disruptions to the flow of traffic. However this will change mid April when the new road works commence and the commissioning of the new bridge structure is anticipated.
